USEFUL TIPS FOR THE PARQUET LAYER

For preparation and application


  • Floor must be dry (maximum moisture content 10 - 12 %), clean and dustfree (remove all sanding dust carefully).
  • Surface must be carefully and evenly sanded (at least grain 120, better grain 150).
    For DRY MAX® treatment grain 150 is required.
  • No coloured primer should be used for the following wood species: Afromosia, Bamboo, Doussie/Afzelia, Ipe,Jatoba, Cambala, Iroko and Merbau.
  • As all wood - even of the same species - can have different degrees of absorption in different parts, it is recommended to try on a small sample before applying a coloured ground coat to the entire floor.
  • When treating hardwoods with HARDWAX-OIL on species like Afromosia, Doussie/Afzelia, Jatoba, Kempas, Merbau, Palisander, Rosewood, Tigerwood, Weng and Smoked Oak, it is recommended to apply COLOR WAX CLEAR EXTRA THIN as Ground coat, because it penetrates more easily.
  • Pine: If preventive protection against mildew and blue stain is desired, pretreat with SAICOS biocidefree WOOD IMPREGNATION.
  • An after-care with SAICOS WAX CARE is useful before putting the floor into use (DuoTop only wash with SAICOS WASH CARE).

Correct application, especially thin coating when applying Hardwax-Oils - and adequate information of customer about Caring and Maintenance - will bring you satisfied customers with no complaints.


Care and Maintenance are easy - good advice for your customers

Daily cleaning
Dry: with broom, mop, duster, vacuum cleaner or electrical floor polisher (Hover).
Moist: Add SAICOS WASH CAREconcentate   to cleaning water (2 caps for approx. 5 litres of water). Wipe floor with well wrung cloth - finish with dry cloth if too wet.
Removal of persistent stains
Pour small amount of SAICOS WAX CARE directly on floor and remove stain with cloth or SAICOS POLISHING PAD (Scotchpad). - Never use steel wool, microchip mops, scouring sand or other abrasive products.

Maintenance
Particularly of heavy-used areas, at doors, under dining tables etc. Approx. once a week or upon demand apply small amount of SAICOS WAX CARE on cloth or directly on dry and clean floor (1 cap sufficient for approx. 1-2 m2). Distribute with cloth or floor polisher. Can be polished after drying. Partial application without visible overlaps.
Attention: Occasional freshening up of SAICOS DuoTop or other floors treated with 1 K or 2 K SEALER: To retain fresh and new appearance of the surface treat with SAICOS REFRESHER (water dilutable - approx. 1 part REFRESHER to 10 parts water) approx. every 3 - 6 months or when desirable.
Initial treatment of new floors with SAICOS WAX CARE is also recommended for industrially prefinished (pre-oiled or pre-waxed) floors after laying, and before use.


Repair of damages
DRY MAX® or PREMIUM HARDWAX-OIL surfaces:

Sand damaged spots (grain 150) to even out surface. Remove dust carefully and thinly apply 1 or 2 new coats of SAICOS PREMIUM HARDWAX-OIL. Renovation: Depending on wear (public areas approx. twice yearly), apply new coat of SAICOS PREMIUM HARDWAX-OIL (quick drying) on clean, dry surface. No sanding. No visible marks when renovated partially.
DuoTop partial surfaces renovation:
Worn parts sand lightly and apply new coat of SAICOS DuoTop 1 K SEALER or 2 K SEALER (with hardener), as chosen. Both 1 K and 2 K SEALER can be applied on surfaces originally treated with either, after sanding area with sandpaper, grade 150. The repair of SAICOS DuoTop surfaces should be left to the professional.

Basic advice for all wood floors:

  • Apply felt pads under chair legs to avoid scratches.
  • Chairs with rollers: protect floor with adequate underlay.
  • Sharp dirt or sand will damage any floor surface, the use of doormats or other dirt absorbers in entry areas is therefore recommended.


Cleaned and maintained like this, your floor will remain fresh, clean, hardwearing and durable, and in the course of time become even more beautiful and easycare.
